Türkiye, Indonesia sign five agreements

BALI

Türkiye and Indonesia have signed five agreements on cooperation in the fields of the defense industry, technology, forestry, environment and development ahead of the G20 Summit to be held on the Indonesian island of Bali on Nov. 15-16.

A historical moment has been witnessed in Bali, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said before the signing ceremony with Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto on Nov. 14, noting that the presidents of the two countries would establish the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council.

Significant progress has been made in the cooperation between the two countries in recent years, Çavuşoğlu emphasized.

The agreements signed will further enhance bilateral relations, Çavuşoğlu said, noting that the private sectors of the two countries would also sign important agreements regarding projects such as electric buses and the Sumatra highway.

Çavuşoğlu said Indonesia held a successful presidency at the G20 Summit despite global challenges.

“We also appreciate the progress of Indonesian President Widodo and Indonesia’s leadership. As the two great powers of the Islamic world, our cooperation is critical for Muslims all over the world, “ he said.

Indonesian Defense Minister Subianto, for his part, said the signed agreements show the dynamism of the relationship between the two countries.

“I know that great efforts have been made to implement these agreements. The bilateral relations between Indonesia and Türkiye are also getting stronger day by day,” he stated.

Subianto stressed he believed that the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, would be a turning point in bilateral relations.

Meanwhile, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his Indonesian counterpart, Joko Widodo, met on Nov. 14.

Congratulating Indonesia on its successful G20 term presidency, Erdoğan voiced his pleasure that Indonesia would take over the MIKTA term presidency from Türkiye next April.

Wishing success to Indonesia during its 2023 ASEAN term presidency, Erdoğan said: “I expect your support for our dialogue partnership goal.”

“The High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council mechanism, which we have established jointly, constitutes a historic step in terms of our bilateral relations,” Erdoğan added.
