A tournament named after the late businessman Erdoğan Demirören, the founder of Demirören Holding, was held over the weekend at the Kemer Country Golf Club in Istanbul.

Among the participants of the tournament were Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Demirören Holding chair Yıldırım Demirören and Limak Holding chair Nihat Özdemir.

Speaking during the tournament, Çavuşoğlu said he was happy to take a break from the busy schedule.

“I specifically wanted to join this tournament despite my busy schedule, because Erdoğan Demirören was a prominent businessman who also contributed to golf in the country,” the minister said, adding that next year’s tournament dedicated to the late businessman would be an international one.

“We talked [on the subject] with Yıldırım Demirören, and we will make this tournament an international one,” he said. “We want to bring professional and amateur players from abroad and turn this event into a tradition.”

Erdoğan Demirören, the founder of Demirören Holding that owns Hürriyet newspaper along with a number of other media outlets, had died on June 8 at the age of 80.
