Eight Turkish patients to receive organs of boy who killed classmate, committed suicide

The organs of a 16-year-old child in the northwestern Turkish province of Bursa, who killed his classmate before committing suicide on May 5, will be transplanted to eight different patients in the country, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

Hasan Can killed his classmate Nilüfer Acar in their classroom at a high school in the Osmangazi district on May 5 and later committed suicide. He was transferred to the Çekirge State Hospital but died of his injuries.

His family announced on May 7 that they had donated all of his organs, and hospital manager Kayhan Songur said his organs will be transplanted to eight patients across Turkey.

According to the report, Can’s heart and lungs will be transplanted to two patients in Ankara, his kidneys will be transplanted to two patients in İzmir and Bursa, his corneas will be transplanted to two patients in Bursa, and his liver will be transplanted to two patients in Erzurum.

Organ transplant coordinator Timur Didinen said one of the planes had already take off from the southern province of Antalya to pick up Can’s organs, while another had taken off from Ankara. 

“The planes will take the organs from here and they will be transferred to necessary places,” Didinen said.
