Eight PKK militants killed in eastern Turkey

KARS
Turkish security forces killed eight members of the outlawed Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) in the eastern province of Kars on June 4, according to the province’s governor.

The Gendarmerie Command Units of the city have launched an air-supported anti-terror operation in Kağızman district, Kars Governor Rahmi Doğan told Anadolu Agency.

He noted that the operation was conducted after detecting the militants’ positions by surveillance image.

“Eight terrorists were killed and the security forces are searching for another terrorist who is on the run,” Gov. Doğan said.

In operations conducted since 2016, a total of 35 PKK militants have been killed by the security forces in Kars province, according to the Governor’s Office.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015. Since then, hundreds of security personnel and thousands of militants have been killed.
