Jil Aigrot is playing Edith Piaf at the musical in Istanbul on Dec 14.

Istanbul is hosting the Edith Piaf musical. The songs made famous by the voices of Edith Piaf and Jil Aigrot will be performed at TIM Show Center tonight.

Edith Piaf was one of the most popular French singers of the 1940’s and 1950’s, who was internationally famous for her husky, mournful voice and her songs of loneliness and despair. Her great fame came after World War II, with her song La Vie en Rose becoming an international standard.

Jil Aigrot was discovered by Ginou Richer who was Edith Piaf’s close friend and personal secretary. Shortly after meeting, Jil Aigrot was chosen to be the singing voice of the great Edith Piaf in Olivier Dahan’s award-winning film, “La Vie En Rose”. Her performance and interpretations of the work of Edith Piaf as the singing voice in the acclaimed movie and on the concert stage have resulted in worldwide acclaim.
