E-readership increases four times since 2010

Every year the use of e-readers increases in Turkey although the country still falls under average on the list of e-reader usage worldwide.The Turkish online book store, Idefix, has run an online application titled “Kitaplık” (Library) since April 2010 and its data shows that online readers increased four times compared to last year’s numbers, reaching 150,000 readers.
In the United States the online book sector e-book sales account for 13 percent of the industry and make up 6 percent of the same sector in England. For now, it equates to only 0.4 percent in Turkey. Since the application’s launch two years ago 84 percent of online readers have become members of Idefix.
The world’s biggest online shopping website Amazon has announced that sales of e-books preceded sales of hard-copy published books. According to numbers announced by the company, 100 published books were sold for every 114 e-books downloaded since the beginning of 2012.
In May, Amazon made an unexpected attempt and cooperated with one of the biggest retail companies, Waterstones.
