A total of 37 works, which were displayed last year at the Burhan Doğançay Museum at an exhibit titled “Picture the World: Burhan Doğançay as a Photographer,” were presented to collectors during a special sales event of the late painter and photographer on Dec. 15.

The museum’s director, Bergin Azer, said the photos would go on display in the geographies where they had been taken.

The revenues from the sale of the works will go to UNICEF, said Azer, adding, “Burhan Doğançay always asked us to make projects for young people, children, education, culture and arts. We maintain his wish.”

Azer said the exhibition would be in Ankara in January and then go on a world tour. “The first destination is Taiwan. We will begin from the most distant point. It will go to the U.S. and Portugal. It will continue through 2017 and 2018.”

The open bidding method was not preferred during the event and five copies of each work were put on sale.

Doğançay’s works are found in the permanent collections of 81 museums around the world.

“Picture the World: Burhan Doğançay as a Photographer” features 96 black-and-white photographs taken in all corners of the world during the past 40 years. Included are numerous key works from the artist’s unique photographic archive, some of which are being shown for the very first time.
