Doğan acquires two wind power plants

Doğan Holding, a Turkish conglomerate active in the media, retail and energy sectors, signed a deal yesterday to acquire two wind power plants from the Ağaoğlu, according to a company press release.

Doğan purchased Mersin Wind Power Plant, with an installed capacity of 33 megawatts, and Şah Wind Power Plant, with an installed capacity of 93 megawatts, for 240 million euros.

The total installed capacity of the plants will be 147 megawatts, and annual electricity production will be about 530 million kilowatts per hour when the current works to increase the capacity ends.

The Ağaoğlu Group is continuing with developing renewable energy investments and currently has 17 power plants with an installed capacity of 1,000 megawatts, Ali Ağaoğlu, the chairman of the group said at a press meeting to announce the deal yesterday.

The energy industry is one of the main fields of activity of Doğan Holding, said Yahya Üzdiyen, the chief executive of the holding.

“Doğan Energy will continue to create value for the economy of the country by adding the Mersin and Şah wind power plants to its current portfolio of hydroelectric power plants, in line with the goal of being a significant player in the energy industry,” Üzdiyen said.

Doğan Holding Chairwoman Begümhan Doğan Faralyalı had previously said Doğan Holding also planned to continue pursuing its investments in energy production, including those made in renewable energy, at a news conference in April.
