Debate on 'withdrawal' from commission
ANKARA - Hürriyet Daily News
A unanimous vote will be sought to ratify those articles that will be reviewed by the Preparatory Constitution Commission. If either the AKP, the CHP, the BDP, or the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) does not vote in favor of a certain article, then the article will become null and void. What will happen if one of the parties withdraws from the commission? The opposition argues that the commission will be terminated as the “unanimity of votes” will have been disrupted. The government wing, on the other hand, points toward the CHP’s and the BDP’s recent boycotts against taking the parliamentary oath and thus opposes the view. The government does not want the commission to work under the shadow of a “threat of withdrawal” in the course of the process of framing a new constitution. It remains to be seen how the commission will proceed after the decisions issuing from today’s meeting.
