Daylight-saving time goes into effect on March 25

ISTANBUL
Residents of Turkey will set their clocks and watches forward one hour at 3 a.m. on March 25 to take greater advantage of sunlight and save electricity.

The Cabinet decision regarding this year’s daylight-saving regime was published in the Official Gazette on March 13, according to Anatolia news agency.

Daylight-saving time will then conclude on Sunday, Oct. 28 at 4 a.m., when people will again set their clocks and watches back one hour.

Daylight-saving time in Turkey starts on the last Sunday of March and ends on the last Sunday of October, in tandem with the countries of the EU.

The Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Ministry is currently calculating how much energy could be saved if daylight-saving time, or summer time, were extended to the whole year. The Ministry is planning to apply daylight-saving time one last time in March 2013, after reverting to standard time in October 2012, and then to end the program.
