Cyprus talks to start in October: President Eroğlu

Turkish Cypriot President Derviş Eroğlu said June 10 that they expected that new negotiations over the divided island would start by October, adding that he will negotiate with the government to distribute land to the public after early elections next month.The Turkish Cypriot government fell last week after a vote of no confidence passed through Parliament. Opposition parties have agreed to form an interim government until elections on July 28.
Eroğlu said he would negotiate the distribution of land with those will abandon their properties in the southern part of the island.
“The state has land to distribute. When the election process is over, we will negotiate with the government. Greek Cypriots did not invest intentionally in the areas where Turkish Cypriots have properties. In negotiations, we will also discuss the improvement of Turkish Cypriots’ properties,” Eroğlu said.
