Cricket infestation stirs panic in Hakkari in Turkey’s southeast
HAKKARİ – Doğan News Agency
Locals of the Gündeş village in Turkey’s southeastern province of Hakkari have been going through a tough period due to the thousands of crickets that have infested their living space.
This is the first time an invasion to an extent this high has happened, one local said.
The imam of the village, Habip Kılıç, said the villagers would face a huge loss of crops if the situation is not resolved as soon as possible.
The green space is simply occupied by crickets, Kılıç added.
The locals, who said the crickets are causing detriment to their crops, await pest control measues to be taken by the authorities.
The government personnel, on the other hand, said they were seeking alternatives to pest control to help resolve the situation and are continuing efforts to remove the crickets.
