Court fines CHP deputy 10 mln liras for alleged public budget shortage

The Republican People’s Party (CHP) Antalya Deputy Mustafa Akaydın has been fined 10 million Turkish Liras by the Turkish Court of Accounts for allegedly causing a shortage in the public budget through construction work and introduction of an automated bus payment system in the Mediterranean province of Antalya when he served as Antalya’s mayor.

Akaydın said the decision was political rather than judicial, speaking to state-run Anadolu Agency. “I have not even heard of the decision although I expected it because the Court for Accounts has become a political institution.”

Akaydın will pay 10 million liras for allegedly causing a public budget shortage, upon an investigation launched over non-accrual of a delay fine and non-implementation of a judicial decision made during the introduction of A-Kent, the automated payment system’s card, and the construction of the 100th Sports Complex. 

The Turkish Court of Accounts, a top financial court with auditing authority, issued a court ruling in the case filed over the investigation and fined Akaydın 10 million liras. 

Akaydın also reacted against fining other members of the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Assembly involved in the municipal process of the sports complex construction and the introduction of automated payment systems.
