Coup probe to include ‘e-memo’

The Parliament commission tasked with investigating military interventions has decided to look into the so-called “e-memorandum” of 2007, which was dropped from the commission’s agenda last week with a majority of the ruling Justice and Development Party’s (AKP) votes.

The main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), however, insisted yesterday on the inclusion of the Turkish General Staff’s online statement, in which the military threatened to step in to protect Turkey’s secular system, on the commission agenda.

Commission head Nimet Baş and the CHP agreed to task the sub-commission responsible for the February 28 post-modern coup with investigating the e-memo as well.

The e-memo was excluded last week due to the AKP’s claim that it was an “attempt that failed to reach its goal.
