Council claims weapons carried in ambulances

Press Council President Orhan Birgit has claimed he obtained photos of ambulances carrying weapons for Syrians fighting against regime forces.

“We will soon prepare a report based on our findings. Unfortunately we were given photos that show ambulances carrying weapons,” Birgit said after visiting Hatay with a delegation group.

Meanwhile, British Defense Secretary Philip Hammond told reporters in Doha that Western countries are not considering military intervention in Syria while Russia and China oppose such action. “So long as two major powers are actively opposed to any intervention in Syria, that is a major impediment to Western nations contemplating such action,” said Hammond, in a clear reference to Moscow and Beijing, Agence France-Presse reported.

Jolie’s Ankara, Kilis visit
In the meantime, Hollywood celebrity and special envoy of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Angelina Jolie, accompanied by U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterre, will visit Syrian refugee camps today and hold formal meetings in Ankara tomorrow. Jolie and Guterres will probably visit a camp housing 12,000 refugees in Kilis province and may visit a second camp in Gaziantep province. Jolie is expected to meet with President Abdullah Gül on Sept. 14.
