Convict escapes from high security prison

A convict has reportedly escaped from the northwestern province of Kocaeli’s Kandıra F-Type Prison, which is known as one of the most secure prisons in Turkey. A large scale operation has been launched to arrest the fugitive, identified as M.K.M.K., who was serving a prison sentence for his involvement in a gang, was detected to have escaped after the night register was made. Indications show that M.K. escaped by climbing through the air vent, passing to the roof of the sports hall, and then climbing over the wire fence.
The escape marks the first time anybody has escaped from the prison. According to reports, a public prosecutor and gendarmerie authorities are examining the prison, while police-supported gendarmerie units are examining the records of security cameras in the city of Kocaeli.
