Consortium voices bid for Digiturk

A consortium made up of several Turkish and foreign investors has emerged as a new claimant for acquisition of broadcasting platform Digiturk.Efor Investment and Beetech Consortium has announced that it is considering buying the former Çukurova-owned broadcaster, which was put up in the market by the Turkey’s state-run Savings Deposit and Insurance Fund (TMSF) after being seized due to debts.
“We have conveyed our intention to talk and acquire Digiturk to the related institutions,” said Özgür Ulupınar, the investment director of the consortium.
He said acquiring Diigturk was the key part of the group’s $10-billion planned investments in Turkey, where he described “as the safest investable haven.”
Ulupınar also said the group was looking to transform Digiturk into a bigger brand in the Iraqi Gulf region and North Africa.
The prospect of Digiturk is exciting many investors. Recently, Türk Telekom submitted a non-binding offer to buy a 53 percent stake of the company.
Digiturk’s biggest rival, D-smart, also repeated yesterday its desire to buy the company.
