Confidence indexes drop

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) announced yesterday that the confidence indexes for services, retail trade and construction sectors decreased 2.8 percent, 0.2 percent and 2 percent respectively in September when compared to August 2012.The confidence index – which was 108.2 for services, 109.0 for retail trade and 86.8 for construction in August 2012 – became 105.2, 108.8 and 85.1 respectively in September 2012.
The decrease in the services confidence index was due to the business environment deterioration over the past three months and demand/turnover in the past three months. The decrease in the retail trade confidence index was a result of the deterioration in business activity/sales over the past three months, while the decrease in construction confidence was due to the deterioration in employment expectations over the next three months.
