Companies to produce Turkey’s first indigenous car 

A joint local automotive enterprise which consists of companies that will make Turkey’s first indigenous car will be announced on Nov. 2 in an official ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Ankara, according to sources close with the matter.

Following a call from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB) started to work on the project along with the Science, Industry and Technology Ministry in May.

After the parties held meetings with a number of businesses, they determined the companies set to participate in the local partnership to produce the country’s domestic car, according to the sources.

The partnership involves more than three companies, they added.

Erdoğan called on TOBB members to produce a local car brand at the association’s general assembly meeting back in May.

“I have an offer, and I voice it everywhere. I am now calling on you to create an indigenous car,” he had said.

TOBB President Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu then responded affirmatively to Erdoğan’s call.

Meanwhile, Erdoğan previously voiced his demand last week at a high advisory board meeting of the Turkish Industry and Business Association (TÜSİAD).
