Parliamentary Speaker Cemil Çiçek appealed to young people yesterday to voice their expectations on Turkey’s new constitution as he attended a meeting of the Constitution Platform in the Black Sea province of Samsun.

“What we want from you is to answer the questions that will determine the framework of the new constitution without feeling any concern for speaking out. We place importance on that,” Çiçek told an audience of young people.

“We should be able to succeed in making our first constitution with the participation of the people in line with the expectations of the people. This would boost our confidence, increase Turkey’s prestige, increase Parliament’s credibility even more and boost trust in politicians. Turkey needs such a success,” he said.
Speaking at the same gathering, the head of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB), Rıfat Hisarcıklıoğlu, said a new, democratic constitution would lay the ground for a more prosperous Turkey.
