CHP to hold election campaign with ‘Turkey first’ slogan

Turkey’s main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) has set “Turkey first” as its main slogan for the upcoming Nov. 1 snap elections.

CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who has already launched his election campaign with visits abroad during which he met with overseas Turkish citizens, will embark on nation-wide election rallies on Oct. 3 in the southern province of Mersin after announcing his party’s election manifesto at a mass gathering at the Congresium Hall of the Ankara Chamber of Commerce (ATO) on Sept. 30. 

The CHP also prepared brochures in which the party’s approach during failed coalition talks with the Justice and Development Party (AKP) following the June 7 vote has been explained to the electorate.

The social-democrat party has revised its election manifesto which it announced for the previous elections, keeping its promise to give pensioners two additional monthly salaries during religious holidays, the state-run Anadolu Agency reported on Sept. 27. It is expected to increase is earlier promise of raising the minimum wage to 1,500 Turkish Liras, the agency also said.

Proposals on ending terrorist actions will be listed in the manifesto, while university students, the education system, the subcontractor labor system and sports will also be among the topics.

Due to the short period of time before Nov. 1, Kılıçdaroğlu will not hold as many as rallies as he held in the run-up to the June 7 parliamentary elections. The CHP leader plans to hold rallies in 25 provinces, with visits to towns and villages also on the agenda.
