CHP ready to hold ‘rallies for justice’ to protest AKP
ANKARA - Hürriyet Daily News
The main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) is planning to hold a number of rallies across Turkey to demand “urgent action for democracy and justice.”“The 10-year-long rule of the Justice and Democracy Party [AKP] has destroyed justice all over Turkey. We have to object to the injustice of the AKP with all segments of society. For this reason, we are going to launch rallies for justice. We have opened an umbrella for those who demand justice all around Turkey; we are calling on our citizens to join us under this umbrella,” CHP deputy chair Bülent Tezcan said at a press conference at party headquarters yesterday.
The CHP’s first “rally for justice” will be held in the southern province of Adana on Jan. 26.
Tezcan said the AKP had systematically taken the judiciary under its control and had damaged democracy during its decade-long tenure.
“Mass investigations and probes have become a witch hunt. . Lawmakers, military commanders, journalists, students and scientists are behind bars,” Tezcan said, calling on everyone, regardless of political affiliation, to attend the meetings if they felt uneasy with current judicial practices.
