"I thought you were not using religion for politics," Erdoğan said in a meeting yesterday with his party’s branch leaders. Erdoğan also criticized the veil move of the opposition party, stating it was a move made out of panic because of the success of the ruling party. These kinds of attempts fail, as they are not sincere but calculated, he said. "The nation will entangle the opposition party in the veil," he said.

"What is the meaning of bringing [Koran courses] onto the agenda before local elections?" Erdoğan said, adding it was the CHP that increased the age level to participate in Koran courses to 15. "Furthermore, there are sufficient Koran courses."

Erdoğan also blamed the opposition party for inventing new local policies such as neighborhood houses, already in operation in local municipalities under the Justice and Development Party, or AKP’s rule. "Now they are trying to invent new things. They call them neighborhood houses. We have already done this, gentlemen. If you go to our municipalities you will learn this well after a study of neighborhood mansions." The neighborhood mansions project has gone on for years, he said, adding that some candidates had tried to depict some AKP projects as their own.
