CHP leader responds to Oct 29 rally debate

Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu yesterday said identities and faiths are human rights that politics should not interfere with, in response to Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in the ongoing Republic Day rally debate.

“We wish for peace in our country, not fighting or separatism. The Republic of Turkey should not deal with individuals’ ethnicity, faith or sect. Identities and faiths are people’s pride. They are human rights. And politics should not interfere with human rights. I don’t intend to marginalize any citizen. I don’t make a distinction between people. I only want you not to follow wrongful deeds. Political ethics are lacking in Turkey. I will always tell the truth to the people in any case,” Kılıçdaroğlu said.

CHP Istanbul provincial head Oğuz Kaan Salıcı, whose criticism of the military yesterday for not protecting the republic stirred fresh debates, said of his comments, “I am standing behind my words. Could the prime minister stand behind the gas and the clubs he used?”
