Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu lights a candle during his visit to Antakya Orthodox Greek Church in his visit to Germany.

Main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has met with several religious communities in Germany as part of his official visit to the country, seeking support for the joint presidential candidate of the CHP and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu.

During his visit to the Syriac Orthodox Church in Cologne on June 27, Kılıçdaroğlu said voters had “responsibility.” “Let’s [elect a president] who does not use the language of anger and be the guarantee of the democratic, secular and social state with the rule of law. You have the responsibility. You will vote too. I want you to make your choice on the side of honesty, merit and those who do not discriminate,” he said.

Kılıçdaroğlu also visited the Antakya Greek Orthodox Church, the Turkish Religious Directorate Turkish Islam Unity Mosque, and the German-Alevi Unity Federation in Cologne. He lit candles in the Antakya Greek Orthodox Church.

CHP leader Kılıçdaroğlu was also set to attend an “Anatolia Faith and Culture” meeting in the city’s Swiss Hotel later in the day.
