CHP deputy chair resigns over 'neglect'

A deputy chair of the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) submitted his resignation on Oct. 23, reportedly as a result of neglect of his projects by the party headquarters.

Before submitting his resignation, CHP Deputy Chair Emrehan Halıcı expressed his unease at a meeting of the party’s Central Executive Board (MYK), which was chaired by party leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.

“The projects that I have presented are not being taken into consideration. Other deputy chairs are interfering in my area of duties and I don’t think this is appropriate. My projects are kept on hold and are not implemented. There is a constant interference,” Halıcı, also a deputy for Ankara, was quoted by sources as telling Kılıçdaroğlu during the meeting.

He submitted his resignation after the meeting, the sources added, indicating that he was unable to receive the expected response to his complaints.

Halıcı, an expert on computer technology-based projects, had earlier this year led his party’s “e-elector” initiative that will enable citizens to check electoral rolls and detect deficiencies and mistakes through websites and mobile applications.
