Chinese technology giant Huawei is revamping its Istanbul research and development (R&D) center by injecting $15 million to make it the second largest R&D center outside China.

Center to create jobs for engineers

“Our center here is focused on software development. In 2002 we began operating in Turkey.
In 2010 we opened our R&D center. We are going to grow this center and employ more engineers,” Huawei’s Global Communications Head Ross Gan told Hürriyet.

Huawei is expanding rapidly in Turkey, Gan said, adding that the company started its Turkey operation with only eight people in 2002.

“Right now we employ 850 people. We use local workers and Turkish engineers in all of our projects. Many of our managers are Turkish,” Gan said.

Huawei also has more than 100 local business partners.
