A car crashed into pedestrians and a natural gas distribution box earlier today in Istanbul’s Fatih district, near the neighborhood of Atik Ali, Doğan News Agency has reported.Adem Coşkun, 19, was killed in the crash and found dead in the area, while his mother, Emine Coşkun, died in the hospital, where she was taken after the crash.
Seven other people who were injured in the accident have been transferred to local hospitals for treatment.
The Istanbul gas distribution agency, İGDAŞ, told the Hürriyet Daily News that no explosion or fire had been caused by the natural gas on the scene. “No explosion or fire caused by natural gas took place in the area,” İGDAŞ said in a written statement.
The statement added that a car has crashed into pedestrians and a gas distribution box in Fatih’s Derviş Ali neighborhood, damaging the distribution box and causing a gas leak. “A natural gas emergency team reached the scene in six minutes, cutting off the gas leak and repairing the damage,” said the statement.
