Bulls from Australia headed to Turkey

Some 4,000 British breed bulls from the Alice Springs region and western New South Wales (NSW)
in Australia will be shipped to Turkey this week, according to newsportal ABC.

They have been trucked from Central Australia to a pre-export feedlot north of Adelaide Australia, and will be part of a shipment of 12,000 slaughter and feeder cattle to be shipped out of Port Adelaide and Fremantle.

The newsportal quoted Dean Ryan, who contracts to Livestock Shipping Services, as saying that the good season has meant a higher number of Central Australian bulls were available.

“A lot of the pastoralists weren’t able to get round and do mustering programs as they probably would have in drier years,” he said.

“So there’s a lot of young mickeys which traditionally would have been castrated and turned into steers or sold as wieners.

“So we went to the agency network in the Alice Springs area to try and get messages out that we would be interested in that type of cattle for Turkey.”
