Bulgarian toddler survives eight-story fall

A three-year-old girl survived an eight-story fall from an apartment building in Bulgaria without major injuries, hospital officials said today.

The Roma girl, named in the press as Poli Filipova, was chasing a ball when she fell from the eighth-floor terrace in the southern town of Pazardzhik on Friday.

"It is a miracle. The toddler tumbled down from balcony to balcony to finally end on soft soil. She only had a scratch on the head," local hospital chief nurse Elena Sluncheva told AFP.

The girl was held in hospital for surveillance and would return to her family later Tuesday, the official said.

Only last week a 20-year-old woman sustained serious spinal injuries when she tripped while washing windows and fell from the third floor of the same building, Sluncheva said.
