Russia's Bolshoi Theatre on Tuesday announced that it sacked its director Anatoly Iksanov following a series of scandals including the horrific acid attack on its artistic director in January, its new director Vladimir Urin said.

Speaking to reporters after the announcement, Urin, who leaves the helm of Moscow's Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Theatre, said it was important for the change of management to proceed in a "civilised manner."
