Body of missing Italian man found in Istanbul

ISTANBUL

The body of an Italian man who disappeared in Istanbul two weeks ago has been found in the Fatih district of the city.

The police found out that a body was washed up on Fatih’s Sarayburnu area, which was later understood to belong to Alessandro Fiori.

His father also confirmed that the body belonged to his son at the Forensic Medicine Institute, but a DNA test will be carried out for the precise result.

Fiori reportedly had injuries on his head, but it is not clear where they came from.

The 33-year-old from Milan flew to Istanbul on March 12 and was last spotted on a CCTV camera on March 14 in Istanbul’s busy Beyoğlu district, where the Italian Consulate is located, according to his father, Eligio Fiori.

Fiori’s father came to Turkey after failing to reach his son and notified the Turkish police about the situation.

His phone, wallet and other belongings were found in a hotel trash bin.

Eligio Fiori told the AP on March 27 that his son, a marketing manager, often traveled abroad. He last saw Alessandro two weeks ago at their family home. He flew to Istanbul the next day without telling anyone. His mother later checked his credit card activity and found he had bought a plane ticket.
