BIPO to end season remembering Leyla Gencer

ISTANBUL
The Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra (BIPO) will end its 2015 concert season with a tribute concert for late Turkish soprano Leyla Gencer. The concert titled “In Memory of Leyla Gencer: AIDA” will be very special, with American soprano Latonia Moore as the lead.

After an unexpected and triumphant debut at The Metropolitan Opera in March 2012 replacing Violeta Urmana as Aida, she has become associated with this role, reprising it in leading opera houses.

With mezzo-soprano Stella Grigorian, who is remembered for her 2012 New Year’s Concert with the Strauss Festival Orchestra, tenor Carlo Ventre, who made his Covent Garden debut as Radames and baritone George Gagnidze, Aida will be a memorable one.

The concert will take place tonight at the Lütfi Kırdar Congress and Exhibition Hall. Tickets are available at Biletix.
