Beren Saat to star in new Netflix series
ISTANBUL
Netflix, the world’s leading internet entertainment service, has announced on its social media account that its second original Turkish series is on the way. The series will star actress Beren Saat.
Mentioning characters such as Queen Elizabeth in “The Crown,” Claire Underwood in “House of Cards,” Annie in “Maniac,” Tokyo in “La Casa de Papel,” Ruth Wilder in “GLOW” and Jessica Jones in “Marvel,” Netflix greeted Saat, saying “welcome among the powerful women.”
The title, cast and date of the new series has not been announced yet.
The first Turkish series on Netflix titled “The Protector” was announced in March. Starring Çagatay Ulusoy, the 10-episode super hero fantasy also stars Okan Yalabık, Ayça Ayşin Turan, Hazar Ergüçlü and Mehmet Kurtuluş.
The series follows the epic adventure of Hakan, a young shopkeeper whose modern world gets turned upside down when he learns he is connected to a secret, ancient order, tasked with protecting Istanbul.
Born in 1984, Saat is one of the most popular Turkish celebrities. She gained fame with her role in “Aşk-ı Memnu” (Forbidden Love) as Bihter Ziyagil. “Fatmagül’ün Suçu Ne?” (What is Fatmagül’s Fault?) and the drama series “İntikam,” a spin-off from the American television series “Revenge,” were among her other important projects.
She also played a title role in the Turkish drama “Muhteşem Yüzyıl Kösem” as Kösem Sultan, who earned a reputation for being the most dangerous and devious of the mother sultans in the Ottoman Empire.
