BDP mayor of Kızıltepe in southeastern Turkey injured in armed assault at his office

İsmail Asi was elected from the ranks of the BDP in the March 30 polls.

The mayor of the southeastern province of Mardin’s Kızıltepe district was injured after being shot in an armed assault at his office on April 11.

İsmail Asi, who was elected from the ranks of the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) in the March 30 local election, was rushed to hospital after the attack. The assailant was delivered to the police after being
captured while trying to run away.

With a population of over 200,000, Kızıltepe is one of the largest cities without being a provincial center.
