BDP building in Gaziantep attacked in wake of bomb

Over 100 protesters attacked the Gaziantep provincial office of the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) last night following a bombing that killed nine civilians on Aug. 20 in the southeastern province, Doğan news agency reported.
 
The group marched toward the building, chanting and shouting slogans before smashing the party's sign over the door, as well as breaking the windows of the building.
 
Police forces were sent to the area in response while fires started by the assailants’ Molotov cocktails were doused by security officials. Police officers later dispersed the group.
 
Security measures were subsequently increased in the area.
 
A car laden with explosives was detonated Aug. 20 in Gaziantep, near the Syrian border, killing at least nine people and wounding 68. Turkish security forces detained five people who are suspected of involvement in the bombing in the southeastern province of Şanlıurfa’s Siverek district today, including the driver of the tow truck which brought the detonated car close to its location in Gaziantep.

Assailants remotely detonated the explosives at 7:38 p.m. after leaving the car at a bus stop 30 meters from the Karşıyaka Police Station in the province’s Şehitkamil district.
