Başakşehir increases gap to eight points in Turkish Super League

Spor Toto Super League leader Başakşehir has increased its lead to eight-points after its closest rival Galatasaray was held to a 1-1 draw at Erzurumspor on March 3.
Başakşehir was victorious over Malatyaspor on March 3, with Emre Belözoğlu opening the scoring with a penalty shot in the 44th minute and Edin Visca making it 2-0 in the 57th minute. With the win, the club based in an Istanbul suburb increased its points to 54 in 24 games, extending its stay atop the league standings.
In Erzurum, Rashad Muhammed put the home side ahead in the 18th minute, while Galatasaray salvaged a point thanks to a goal by Younes Belhanda in the 52nd minute.
Third-place Beşiktaş missed the chance to cut the gap with Galatasaray, getting a 2-2 draw at Kayserispor on March 2.
Fenerbahçe came from behind to defeat Rizespor 3-2 on the same day, grabbing its only sixth win of the season. It was a crucial victory for the Istanbul club, which is going through its worst league season ever and sits at 14th spot with 28 points, with two points separating it from the relegation zone.
Also in the Spor Toto Super league over the weekend, Ankaragücü won 4-2 at Antalyaspor on March 1, Bursaspor ended its winless run with a 3-2 win at home against Sivasspor, and Konyaspor and Göztepe drew 1-1 in Konya.
