‘Bad Cat Shero’ comes to big screen in Turkey

ISTANBUL
The first official trailer for the animated feature “Kötü Kedi Şerafettin” (Bad Cat Şerafettin), a big screen adaptation of the hugely popular Turkish comic book series of the same name from the 1990s, has been released online.

Produced by Anima Istanbul, the film is an animated 3D epic for young adults featuring the unforgettably bad cat, Şerafettin (Shero), and his foul-mouthed gang.

Co-directed by Mehmet Kurtuluş and Ayşe Ünal, “Bad Cat Şerafettin” opens as Shero the bad cat, Rıza the rat, and Rıfkı the seagull are getting ready for a barbeque night. But this usual-looking day will turn out otherwise, with Shero inadvertently causing the death of a likely lover, getting chased to death by his antagonists, falling in love and finding out that he is father to a son, only to disown him.

The worldwide rights to the film are held by the Australian distribution company Odin’s Eye Entertainment, which presented a promo trailer at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, where the company’s director described the film as “Tarantino meets ‘Top Cat.’”
