Arrest warrant for ex-BDP MP

An arrest warrant for former Şırnak Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) deputy Sevahir Bayındır was issued Sept. 12 in a propaganda case. Bayındır is believed to be residing in Europe.

A legal case was filed against Bayındır at the Seventh Diyarbakır Court for Serious Crimes demanding a 5-year prison sentence for making propaganda for the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) due to a speech she had given in Şırnak. A warrant for Bayındır’s arrest was demanded during the hearing, where Bayındır and her lawyer did not appear. The panel of judges decided to issue a warrant for her arrest since Bayındır had not made her defense. The panel also ruled that her statement was to be taken by the Seventh Diyarbakır Court for Serious Crimes.
