The traditional parade of the festival is one of the events cancelled.
The 51st Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival committee has cancelled all of the festival’s side events, including a parade, concerts and parties, due to the ongoing Kobane protests across Turkey. In a written statement, the festival committee expressed its sadness that the country had been experiencing a new wave of violence over the last few days, during which 24 citizens have died and many citizens and security officials have been wounded. It said cinema artists could not ignored this situation.
“Because of these incidents we even considered postponing the festival, although all preparations had been done. But as we think arts gain importance at such times and are a cure for social troubles, we have decided to cancel all side events of the festival such as the parade, concerts and parties. Other artistic events will continue, and our festival will go ahead with its national and international film competitions and awards,” the statement said.
The festival is being held between Oct. 10 and 18 in the Mediterranean province of Antalya.
