Ankara’s deputy governor becomes Turkey’s ambassador to Ghana

Only a month after the appointments of around 20 new ambassadorial posts at the Foreign Ministry became effective in late August, a new decree has come into force with a non-career diplomat being appointed Turkey’s new ambassador to Ghana. The Cabinet’s decision was published in the Official Gazette over the weekend.

In line with the current government’s propensity to appoint non-career diplomats as ambassadors, the name of another non-diplomat personality was present in the latest decree, with Ankara’s Deputy Governor, Şentürk Uzun, having being appointed as the country’s new ambassador to Ghana in West Africa.

According to the new decree published on Sept. 21., Turkey’s Ambassador to Finland Salah Korutürk; Ambassador Ayşe Nur Alpaslan in Estonia; Ambassador Hasan Kemal Gür in Hungary; Ambassador Ahmet Berki Dibek in Denmark; Ambassador Mustafa Naci Sarıbaş in South Korea; Ambassador Ersin Erçin in Brazil; Ambassador Levent Murat Burhan in Georgia; Ambassador Basat Öztürk in Afghanistan; Ambassador Erdoğan Kök in Sudan; Ambassador Nejat Akçal in Kyrgyzstan; Ambassador Serap Ataay in Malaysia; Ambassador Ahmet Melih Ulueren in Uganda; Ambassador Ahmet Ergin in South Sudan; and Ambassador Nuri Kaya Bakkalbaşı in Ecuador have all been posted to the ministry headquarters in the capital city.

Head of Directorate for Strategic Development Ambassador Adnan Başağa has been posted to Helsinki in order to represent Turkey; current Ambassador to Bahrain Ahmet Ülker to Tallinn, while Ülker will be replaced by Hatun Demirer; Ambassador Şakir Fakılı to Hungary; Ambassador and ministry counselor Mehmet Dönmez to Copenhagen; Ambassador Arslan Hakan Okçal to Seoul; Ambassador Hüseyin Diriöz to Brasilia; ministry spokesperson Levent Gümrükçü to Tbilisi as ambassador; current Ambassador in Sofia İsmail Aramaz to Kabul; Süleyman Gökçe to Sofia as ambassador; Consulate-General in Houston Cemalettin Aydın has been posted to Sudan as ambassador; Metin Kılıç to Bishkek as ambassador; current Ambassador in the Netherlands Uğur Doğan to Malaysia; Ayşe Sedef Yavuzalp to Kampala as ambassador; Ambassador Yunus Demirer to Saudi Arabia; Korkut Güngen to Quito; Murat Karagöz to Ulaanbaatar as ambassador; Şule Öztunç to Caracas as ambassador; İlhan Kemal Tuğ to Phnom Penh as ambassador; Osman Rıza Yavuzalp to Addis Ababa as ambassador; Ahmet İhsan Kızıltan to Luanda as ambassador; Fikret Oğuz Ateş to Bandar Seri Begawan as ambassador; and Fırat Sunel to Asmara as ambassador
