Ankara police detain 39 in crackdown on criminal group

Among the suspects is a sergeant-ranked soldier, a police officer and a municipal-level police chief, said the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media.
The criminal organization is said to be involved in plundering, weapon-trafficking and drug-trafficking, hosting illegal gambling, and forcing people to sign cheques and bills.
A total of 64 addresses were raided simultaneously in the operation, which involved 300 police officers.
Police also seized a number of weapons during the raids.
