"I have talked about the project with him, and it was also proposed that it be staged on Broadway, but he remains silent," Julia Gomez Cora, the Spanish director for Stage Entertainment, told the daily newspaper Publico. "He has not said yes or no, but let's be realistic, Almodovar is reluctant. But I will continue to insist."Almodovar's film, a melodramatic tragedy mixed with frenetic comedy, helped launch the director's international career. It also boosted the careers of its stars, Carmen Maura and Antonio Banderas.
The movie tells the tale of a depressed woman's efforts to track down her ex-lover to find out why he left her; it includes a famous scene involving a blender full of gazpacho spiked with sleeping pills. Almodovar’s 17th film, "Los Abrazos Rotos," or "Broken Embraces," opened in Spain last month. Stage Entertainment owns theaters, theater productions and venues throughout the United States, the Netherlands, Germany, Britain, Russia, Italy, France and Spain.
