Former Van Governor Mahmut Yılbaş has rejected Justice and Development Party (AKP) Deputy Chairman Hüseyin Çelik’s claim that a bomb was placed in Çelik’s room at Van University in 1995, on the orders of Yılbaş.A few days ago, Çelik accused Yılbaş of ordering a bomb to be placed in his room, while Çelik was an academic at Van’s Yüzüncü Yıl University in 1995. Yılbaş said Çelik’s claim was a conspiracy against him, and that he did not even know Çelik at that time.
“This claim has nothing to do with reason or intelligence. Reviving this issue after 20 years could be seen as a conspiracy. This is a great injustice. Only those who are not afraid of God can make such a claim. It is a typical mud-throwing strategy. First soldiers, then police; each individual and institution in this country has been spoiled. Now it has come to the civil administration. The chief of police is still alive and his declaration has been published in a number of newspapers. He said the claim was not true. At that time, I didn’t even know [Çelik],” Yılbaş said.
