AKP MP elected as NATO parliament deputy head

ANKARA

The head of the Turkish delegation to NATO Parliamentary Assembly (PA) has taken up a new role.

Osman Aşkın Bak, a lawmaker of Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), was on Nov. 19 appointed as deputy president of NATO PA.

“Congratulations to my dear friend Osman Aşkın Bak, Head of the NATO PA Turkish Delegation and MP for Rize for his election as Vice-President of the NATO PA!” Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu wrote on his Twitter account following the annoucement.

The NATO PA, which is made up of delegates from NATO’s 28 member states, usually meets during the spring and autumn to formulate policy recommendations.

Turkey has been a member of NATO for 66 years, while Turkish army is the second strongest army of the military alliance after the U.S. armed forces.
