Airliner enjoys jump in passenger numbers

Turkish Airlines’ passenger traffic for the January-to-June 2012 period rose 20 percent over the same period in 2011, the carrier said in an announcement to the Istanbul Stock Exchange (İMKB).

The airline increased the number of its passengers from 14.8 million in the first half of 2011 to 17.7 million in the first six months of this year.

Business/Comfort Class and International transfer passengers registered a 44.8 percent and 47.4 increase, respectively, while the rate of passenger capacity was up by 5.7 points to 75.2 percent. 

Turkish Airlines increased its sales revenue by 40 percent in 2011 compared to 2010 while recording an operating profit of 339 million Turkish Liras. Net profit came in at 19 million liras. The number of passengers carried increased by 12 percent, reaching 32.7 million in 2011.
