Turkey’s Housing Development Administration (TOKİ) has signed a protocol with the General Directorate for Cultural Heritage and Museums to establish a museum and cultural complex in Afyonkarahisar in order to better preserve the region’s cultural heritage.

The structure, designed for all visitors’ needs, will become a cultural facility for tourists in the inner Aegean province, officials said.

The project is expected to cost 20 million Turkish Liras and is scheduled to be finished in February 2013. It is meant to be a reference point for other projects.

Design of complex

The six-unit, three-story complex will have equipment for cultural and social services, officials said. The museum will include an archaeology hall, city museum and ethnography hall, temporary exhibition hall, open displaying areas, museum laboratories and museum education areas. The congress center will have a 400-person capacity hall, systems for audio and visual presentations, a simultaneous translation system, light and sound equipment.

The complex was designed with Afyonkarahisar’s location in mind, at a crossroads for major cities like Ankara, Antalya, İzmir, Eskişehir and Konya. The cultural center will provide tourists with a wide array of services, according to officials.

The complex will have a car park for up to 200 cars and an area for tour busses as well. People will also be able to buy food and drink in the building.
