Africa’s diva at Jazz festival

Called “Africa’s premier diva” and “the undisputed Queen of African Music,” Angelique Kidjo will take the stage July 14 at Feriye Restaurant in Ortaköy. The concert will be organized as part of the 21st Istanbul Jazz Festival.

Kidjo is considered one of the most powerful voices of world music. Blending African music with a variety of genres ranging from American soul music to funk, rap to samba and reggae to jazz, she won the Best Contemporary World Music Album Grammy with her 2008 album “Djin Djin” and was nominated in the same category with “Oyo,” her subsequent album. Following the release of her 2014 record Eve, Kidjo is going to perform her first solo concert in Istanbul.

Tickets for the Hugh Masekela concert, which has been canceled, will be valid for Angelique Kidjo concert.  
The 21st Istanbul Jazz Festival, which kicked off July 1, will continue until July 16 at various locations in the city.
