Acıbadem acquires local health company

Acıbadem Sağlık Hizmetleri, Turkey’s largest private health chain, acquired a majority stake in Jinemed Sağlık Hizmetleri, according to a filing to the Istanbul Stock Exchange (İMKB) by Acıbadem yesterday.

Acıbadem paid a sum of 13.65 million Turkish Liras for a 65 percent stake in Jinemed, the filing said, adding that the accord was signed following the approval of the Competition Authority. The talks between the parties were made public Jan. 20.

Jinemed owns a general purpose hospital and a medical center in Istanbul’s Beşiktaş and Kalamış neighborhoods, according to the filing.

Integrated Healthcare Holding (IHH) and Bagan Lalang Ventures bought a controlling stake in Acıbadem Hospitals recently. IHH owns a 60 percent stake and Bagan Lalang Ventures owns a 15 percent stake in Acıbadem, according to a Jan. 24 filing to the İMKB.

“After this partnership we plan to open 26 hospitals in eight different countries, with a 5,500-bed capacity. This will make us second in the world after the Hospital Corporation of America,” Acıbadem Chair Mehmet Ali Aydınlar said last month when the talks were disclosed to the public.
