Abducted Turkish truck driver in Afghanistan is released, Turkish FM says

Turkish truck driver Kerim Yeşil, who was kidnapped in Afghanistan on April 16, was released, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu posted on his Twitter account late July 13.

Yeşil was brought into the Turkish Provincial Reconstruction Team in Jawzjan (PRTJawzjan) with the effort of all Turkish corporations, the minister said, adding that he had spoken with Yeşil on the phone.

“Everything necessary for Yeşil to come together with his family is being done,” he said. The driver was expected to come to Turkey in couple of days.

Yeşil had been kidnapped on his way to Mazar-e Sharif by a group connected to the Taliban. Afghanistan’s Jowzjan Gov. Muhammed Alim Sayi had said in April that they were negotiating with the Taliban to release Yeşil.
